  1. 01

Androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern)

The most common cause of hair loss - genetically and hormonally determined. It stems from follicle hypersensitivity to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the active form of testosterone.

In men it shows as a receding hairline at the temples and thinning at the crown; in women as diffuse thinning at the top of the head and a widening parting, with the frontal line preserved.

DHT miniaturises the follicles - hair grows ever thinner and shorter until the follicle disappears completely.

  2. 02

    Telogen effluvium

A disruption of the hair growth cycle in which too many follicles (even 30-50%) enter the resting phase at once and fall out.

Symptoms: sudden, intense shedding in handfuls, noticeable when washing or combing - rarely complete baldness, but a marked loss of volume.

It usually appears 3-4 months after a strong trigger - high fever, severe stress, anaesthesia, childbirth, a drastic diet or stopping hormonal contraception. With proper diagnosis and removal of the cause, it is fully reversible.

  3. 03

    Alopecia areata

An autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks its own hair follicles, treating them as foreign.

Symptoms: the sudden appearance of round or oval patches of complete hair loss; the skin there is smooth, with no signs of inflammation.

It can affect the scalp, but also eyebrows, eyelashes or body hair, and follows an unpredictable course. It calls for a holistic approach, often combining trichological treatments with psychological and dietary support.

  4. 04

    Seborrhoeic dermatitis (SD)

A chronic, recurrent inflammatory condition, often linked to overactive sebaceous glands and Malassezia yeast.

Symptoms: greasy, yellowish scales on the scalp, intense itching, redness and a characteristic skin odour.

Left untreated it can lead to excessive hair loss, as the build-up blocks the follicle openings. Regular scalp cleansing (trichological peels) and preparations that inhibit pathogens are key.

  5. 05

    Folliculitis

An inflammation most often caused by bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) or yeasts, affecting the opening or the whole follicle.

Symptoms: small pustules filled with pus, surrounded by a red rim, often with pain, tenderness and burning.

It may result from mechanical injury, poor hygiene or lowered immunity. Frequent recurrences can lead to scarring alopecia, where the destroyed follicle is replaced by connective tissue, preventing regrowth.
